Some changes arise from necessity - the best ones arise from the ambition to do things better. Our continued R&D efforts within the research and development project “material change with impact – smart production" have resulted in a second nomination for the Bavarian Innovation Award.

Our project began with a major challenge: rising raw material prices, material shortages, and a rejection rate of 30%. The classic maple wood standard– trusted by professionals worldwide – was under pressure. New manufacturing processes, newly developed surface technologies, and a fundamentally redesigned production system were necessary not only to maintain our established quality, but to surpass it. At the end of this journey stood a material that embodies everything we had hoped for: accoya® – sustainable, precise, and future-ready.

The path forward demanded true engineering excellence, made at „Richter Meßwerkzeugfabrik“. The acetic acid-based modification of accoya® attacked the finest coatings. The dovetail joint, the heart of every folding ruler, had to be completely reimagined. The UV drying process was completely new redesigned. The result is a ruler that does not simply measure, but sets the standards for precision, sustainability, and innovation.

We are genuinely proud that this achievement has now been recognised for the second consecutive time with a nomination for the Bavarian Innovation Award – a distinction that honours our commitment to our Bavarian home.

Precision begins in the details – innovation begins with Us

Each of our measuring instruments is based on craftsmanship, expertise and a little bit more. It reflects a commitment to continuous research and development that begins precisely where others stop asking questions. This is also the case with our latest R&D project: "material and process development of an innovative adhesive solution for the tension-free and precise fixation of spirit levels."

The fixation of the vial in our in-house manufactured spirit levels may appear straightforward from the outside, yet in production it represents one of the most demanding tasks in precision manufacturing. Under all conditions and across every individual unit, the vial must be aligned with absolute accuracy, securely bonded, and held in stable position permanently.

Our previous process relied on a UV-curing adhesive – reliable in function, but energy-intensive, sensitive in storage, and demanding in process control. Rather than accepting these limitations, we made them the starting point for a new research and development project.

The result of our R&D work is a newly developed adhesive, specifically tailored to LED curing within the optimal wavelength range. A new dispensing method, developed through precise viscosity fine-tuning, as well as a new curing process that reliably eliminates thermal drift and internal stresses in the glass are the results for deliver greater efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and enhanced precision.

This is how we work at Richter Meßwerkzeugfabrik: not just once, but continuously. Because the highest standards of quality are not achieved by standing still, but by having the courage to constantly rethink things.
